Um... surprise?

November 20th, 2006 at 06:01 pm

But before we get there (heheh), please let me share the backstory with you. (You'll understand why I have to do this in a minute.)

As I was surfing through SavingAdvice one night while trying to figure out how to get through this holiday season, one of my favorite singers, Megan Fanning, started playing in the background.

The song in question was her holiday rendition of "Baby, It's Cold Outside". It was then that I noticed something very peculiar about her version. It was a duet and she's only singing the female vocal lead!

I thought to myself, "Wow! Perfect karaoke material!" Ah, but sadness struck again, for it was something I used to do with my ex and her friends. Now... I basically have no one to share it with, and what good is any perfectly badly sung holiday karaoke music without people to strike fear *cough* er share it with?

Thinking this, and staring at SavingAdvice, it was then that my brilliant Cro-magnon cranial made the amazing connection (to the theme song of 2001: A Space Odyssey). "Why, I can share it with the SavingAdvice crowd!" A fresh new batch of virgin ears to unleash my own brand of terror through the path set forth by the great Asian singer, William Hung? Purrfect! Big Grin

Oh, but I would need to buy some time. Well... a... contest then! Oooh, how neatly the pieces fell in its place.

But I'm getting away from the real point. The real point to all this backstory is the need for some legalese. Ah, yes everybody loves them legalese eh? Yeah, I don't either, but it's necessary to somewhat cover my butt on this one.

You see, I tried to contact Megan Fanning, but my emails were all kicked to the curb like an ex-boyfriend caught cheating while he thought you were gone-like.

Unable to reach her, I then double checked eMusic.com's legalese, where I bought Megan Fanning's music. And of course, they would say that, "Uh, no, we don't want you to screw around with our music and stuff." However, eMusic.com's entire business is based on the idea that they would sell non-protected music, and instead of seeing potential copies out there as illegal pirating, they would consider that as viral marketing instead.

Hey, it works for me! After all, I wouldn't kick eMusic out of the bed for dropping cookie crumbs or anything. Seriously, they are fantastic, and it's the only place I will buy my music from.

So, considering that I don't have official blessing per se, I need to ask all of you the following:

1. Please don't distribute this. This is for your personal use only.

2. Please don't make more than one copy. I recommend that you download only one copy for yourself, to hear it from your computer's hard drive.

3. Please don't use it for monetary gains. In that same vein, I'd also appreciate it if you don't use it as blackmail material later! Big Grin

If you agree with those rules, then please right-click the link below and save a copy of the music to your hard drive before you play. Thank you!

Yes, I agree with the silly legalese conditions above. Big Grin

Thanks to Grutina's list, I also realized that she and some others may not be able to hear this. If you're in that category, or if you wish to see the lyrics that I used to superimpose myself (poorly) to her music, then here is where you'll find it.

1. Highlight and copy this number: 174046637181

2. Go to this link, click on "enter flower number", then paste the number in the text box.

The MP3 should be able to play for most everyone, but if you're still having trouble getting it to play, please let me know and I'll try to help you get it to work.

Haha. I hope it didn't make you guys gag too much, but it sure was fun working on it and sharing it with you all. Happy holidays!

Your flower for Grnuntina was especially classy!

    You da' man!WinkSmile

  3. pjmama Says:

  4. yummy64 Says:

Thank you so much! I enjoyed!

And way better than a pile of credit cards apps for each of us Smile

  5. nanamom Says:

Cool. I enjoyed reading th words since my computer doesn't have an audio ability (or we can't get it to cooperate)

  6. baselle Says:

You're much better than William Hung. Nice job! For laughs we should think about rewriting this song - along the lines of: Baby Its Cheap Outside...heh heh.

  7. monkeymama Says:

OMG - that was PERFECT... I LOVED it. Much better than an ashtray...

  8. Broken Arrow Says:

And way better than a pile of credit cards apps for each of us

That comes later, where you can join my music fan club and get new selections such as "Ain't no mounting high enough" and "Feelings". Big Grin Wow, that was so disturbing that I even creeped myself out.

OMG that is an awesome idea! Hahah, that would be hilarious. Oooh, now you've got me thinking.

    Much better than an ashtray...

I'm glad you liked it... because if this didn't fly, I'd hate to have to spend money on all the play-doh just to make it up to you guys. Big Grin

Thanks everyone. I actually wasn't even sure if you guys would like it. I basically threw all my old crap microphones, cables and recording devices into my closet, and tried out every combination I can think of. The one I settled had the best recording quality (without all the static and hisses) but I was unable to manipulate and blend the sound.

The result is disappointing to me, because the two tracks doesn't sound like they fit. Then again, considering that I didn't want to spend a penny on additional hardware or software, it just had to be good enough.

  9. LuckyRobin Says:

This was so neat. I think you have a very nice voice, books on tape nice. Or Michael York nice. Or Michael York doing books on tape nice. Almost James Earl Jones nice. And the singing part was good, too. Smile

  10. rduell Says:

Okay, the mention of William Hung had me a bit nervous at first, but I must say, you have a very nice voice! Good job! I really enjoyed it.

  11. tinapbeana Says:

um, thinking it's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". i'm pretty sure it would be possible for a 'mounting' to be high enough *g*

and BA, the song is awesome!

  12. princessperky Says:

I loved it! You have a soft sweet voice!

  13. paigu Says:

Wow! You have a very nice alto! Thank you for the dedication, too!

  14. miclason Says:

Just my luck, I decide to chance being fired and play it now instead of at lunch, and the kids decide to hold an impromptu meeting (to discuss the latest batch of interviewees and why they shouldn't hire X or Y) in the office next to mine...(and, with the acoustics here, and 10 people yelling and laughing in the next office, plus my boss holding an interview in the one on the other side of me, I CAN'T HEAR A THING!)... Frown
    The flower was nice....

I'll try this again once they break up and get back to work!

  15. miclason Says:

HA, but, you see, I told you it was a song!

  16. frugalmomof1 Says:

    Bravo!!

  17. Ima saver Says:

Thank you. I don't have the slightest idea of how to do anything on the computer, but I appreciate all your effort.

  18. Broken Arrow Says:

    Tina:
Oops! Your right. My inner geek slipped me up. Big Grin

    rduell:
My co-workers are always egging me on to sing William Hung's version of "She Bangs". In fact, we actually did that once for karaoke! And yes, I sang just as horribly, because I didn't even know how the song went, much less the lyrics! Big Grin It was a funny and yet terrifying moment that I hope I will never have to repeat again. Big Grin

    PrincessPerky:
Thank you for the compliment! Of course, my voice is nothing like that when I'm yelling at the kids not to do something they shouldn't be doing in the first place. Big Grin

    Ima:
Did you get it to work?

  19. tinapbeana Says:

well, i too have an inner geek BA, but i gotta admit the geeky connotation of 'mounting' wasn't actually the first thing that came to mind Stick Out Tongue

  20. Broken Arrow Says:

    Doh! Naughty girl! Big Grin

  21. Thrifty Ray Says:

OK BA ~ I can't speak for everyone, of course, but that was one of the sweetest 'gifts' Ive ever received!! You did an amazing job!!

Of course, I pictured you, Nate and Jeffrey dancing in tights the whole time
(even tho I have no idea what you 3 look like) Just kidding!

Thank you so much for taking the time to create such a nice surprise for our savings advice family!!! I loved it!!

  22. fairy74 Says:

BA, very nice and a good suprise! Rock on Smile

  23. Broken Arrow Says:

Of course, I pictured you, Nate and Jeffrey dancing in tights the whole time

Haha, sorry to disappoint there. Perhaps PricePlus can help you on this one. I hear he's also got a tight shorts fetish as well. Wink

  24. kealina Says:

i really enjoyed it as well... it was such a cool gift... now...if you don't want this getting out there *virtual arm twisting* i will require.... another song! lol...

  25. LdyFaile Says:

Dude that was awesome! Smile I downloaded it this morning but couldn't listen to it til now....

  26. sicilyyoder Says:

    I like reading your posts.

  27. Dido Says:

Sweet! Nice job and happy holiday!!

  28. princessperky Says:

do you know you are all 5 of the /most talked about'?

  29. jodi Says:

Well, I downloaded the song and tried to listen to it with two children playing the Backyardigans game on the computer next to mine (I can't complain too much, they were my kids and they were leaving me alone for a minute). But other than that, I had to contend with my practically-deaf mother watching the Tony Bennett special in the room behind me at top volume. I got DH's headphones, but they didn't work. So, picture me standing bent over with my head pressed to the speakers on the monitor, which prompted my 1-year old to jump on my back, well, cause he thought it looked like fun. THAT's how much I wanted to listen to this.

And it was worth it. Wow - the time it must have taken you to put this together - and for us! How special. I plan to listen again when there is a little less distraction around here! Thank you. I really enjoy getting personal glimpses (or rather, sound bites!) of the people I have met here. I hope your holidays are truely happy.

  30. Diolla Says:

I listened on my headphones at work. You must be quite the perfectionist because I thought it sounded WONDERFUL. I always dreamed of having the nerve to try karaoke but never did.

Thank you, I really enjoyed listening.

  31. rduell Says:

I have it saved on my desktop to listen to again! :-)

  32. Broken Arrow Says:

    PrincessPerky:
WOW! That is really insane! Big Grin Perhaps this isn't the place for it, but I've always questioned the "most talked about" section of the page. I mean, for people who have that much activity, they really don't need the extra front page publicity, ya know? I think it could be better served for something else... but I digress.

    Diolla:
Well, I've only karaoked twice publically... in a bar. Let's see... what did I do? Oh yeah, Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love with You" and "Lady in Red". Oh and "She bang"! Big Grin I don't like doing it publically. At home is better, especially if I can sit there and try again if I screw up. I can't quite do that in a bar. Big Grin

    Jodi:
I think that is one of the funniest and sweetest compliments I've ever seen. Hehehe. Thank you. Thank you everyone.

  33. miclason Says:

Can't Help Falling in Love with You and Lady in Red? ...two of my all-time favorites!...
I've only sung karaoke once....a duet with ex hubby...HE picked the song and I said: are you sure? (Muriendo Lento, by Timbiriche)...you should have seen the look on his face when I sang: You're nothing like the one I loved, and I'm slowly losing faith... LOL! ;P

  34. fairy74 Says:

So I played this for dh because I liked it so much and he says "oh yeah, isn't that Michael Buble in the background?" BA is American Idol in your future???

  35. Broken Arrow Says:

    Maria:
Haha, I don't know what to say about that one, so I'm going to keep my mouth shut for once. Heh.

    fairy74:
Oooh noooo! American Idol is most definitely NOT in my future thanks! Big Grin

But then, William Hung did make it big....

Also, I just heard a soundbite of Michael Buble on his website. Wow, can that boy sing. To even be mistakened for him in passing is a tremendous compliment. I'd give your DH a hug but *cough* we men don't work that way. Big Grin

  36. miclason Says:

Hey!...I FINALLY got to hear this!...I didn't know I was mentioned as one of the winners!!!...

(all analysts and managers are at a special Excel training in another part of the building, I have the office all to myself, so I could play it without any problems!!)....

    BA...Thx!....

    nice voice! Smile

  37. Gruntina Says:

Hi BA - Wow thanks for your generosity and kindness. I just returned from out of state for a while do to bereavement leave so I got to the lyrics pretty late. It was nice of you to do it in an alternative way for those that can not hear. It’s very rare for people to go out of there way to do that, I know this by experience. Thanks so much!!!

    Pretty Creative! Smile

  38. megan Says:

A message to my unidentified duet partner....[BA?]

Sorry about the "bounced back" emails, and a belated Merry Christmas!

    Cheers, Megan Fanning
