I actually went to another meetup tonight! It's the second one I've ever been to, and unlike the first, I enjoyed this one a lot more. (The first time, the people were very nice, but seriously, Cashflow is just a board game, not an interactive Bible on all things investing.)
This one focuses on day trading. (Surprisingly, there isn't a general investing meetup available in my area.)
While... technically, I don't put too much stock into day trading and technicals, the truth turns out that I am much closer to those two than even I realize.
What I found surprising about this group is their age and make-up. Seeing as how day trading is suppose to be the financial equivalent of high speed thrill-seeking, I figure the crowd would be mostly young men in their 20's.
As it turns out, I am among the youngest in the group. Four more are senior citizens, and three are even women! (Well, one was a wife who just came along, probably wanted to know what her crazy husband has been out doing all night.
) Everyone else was a smattering in between.
It made me wonder: Is day trading something that actually appeals to the older crowd?
Anyways, even though it was only one meeting, and we've just barely scratched the surface, I do think that it's already made me a better chart reader!
I will definitely be going back to more of these meetings. They are extremely informative, and best of all, it's free! Many of them pay tidy sum for extra software and services to do advanced charting, but really, I think that'd be overkill for me. I only need the basics, and think I can get away with just Yahoo and Scottrade for free.
Thanks again, MonkeyMama!

Place where people form meet-ups for whatever they're interested in.
It can be for SA if you want, but I don't think there is one. There are also singles meet-ups, but I don't really want to attend those.
