No mid-life crisis here

July 23rd, 2008 at 01:43 pm

Another day of joyous overtime! But a few minutes to kill between workloads, so I thought I'd stop by and ramble about something.

Anyways, not that I am even close to 40 years old yet, but it'll probably sneak up on me sooner rather than later.

So, in my idle time, it got me thinking: I wonder if I'll have one of those mid-life crises that stereotypically hits men when they reach 40?

My current response? No way! Big Grin I get to do what I want, when I want. And all I really want is to go super-fast on increasing my net worth and improving my financial life. And it's happening!

How can anyone have a mid-life crisis in those conditions?

Not that everything in my life is peachy or anything, but you know, you have to be happy with what you do have.... I just need to go faster. Big Grin

On a separate note, I've been looking around for suitable salad dressing bottles. Something dawned on me during my search:

How in the world do people fill these bottles with the itty bitty necks? With a funnel? The opening seems way too small to work with. Instead, I would think something like a canning jar would be much more practical. Here are some examples that I've found on the net (especially the one on the left). What do you think?

Ooh, I like the round jar in red. You don't want a big bottle either because you don't want to make too much of the stuff. I think the red one is perfect.

Thinking about mid life crisis already?!? Well at least your ahead of your game and got a definite preventive plan to avoid having one.

Regarding the bottles - If the opening of the jars are too big, too much can come out at once while pouring. I personally just reuse the olive oil jars/containers for this purpose. It just seems to be the right size and you can buy a couple of brands olive oil that uses a cork.

Imagine being a woman. Our clocks tick WELL before we even hit 40. Isn't that sad?

A corked bottle would perhaps be best. But they do have some smaller bottles with a little nozzle you can screw onto the top.

All I can say is that your perspective will change as you age and you can't know now how you will feel or what you will do then. I've hit the ripe old age of 41 and I never would have believed it when I was in my 20s, but life looks different from here. Things that never used to bother me bug me now, and things I cared greatly about in the past are no longer of concern to me. My priorities haven't changed much, but I have other ideas that have.

Not that I've had a mid life crisis--- I'm too busy for that.

    Be open.

a plastic yogurt thin container can squish to become funnel like if needed.

A small wine bottle, the kind that come in a 4 pack case and hold just two glasses worth comes to mind as the perfect storage.

screw caps, glass or plastic, and fairly right sized for a small batch. but then I enjoy the original contents Smile

They say that life begins at 40 and they are right!! Enjoy your life!!

I don't think the notion that everyone will have a mid-life crisis is any more accurate than the saying that your high school years are the best years of your life. All I can say is thank the stars above that wasn't true! It's been straight uphill for me since high school.

Nice to have you back, BTW.

BA's mid life crisis is blowing $800 at bed bath and beyond .. and maybe buying a new gun....

Talk about bi polar....just kidding .. sort of .. I'm in a weird mood tonight.

  9. Broken Arrow Says:

Yes, you guys are right. I won't know until I get there. Come to think of it, I suppose if I am still single by then, that might make me feel bad or something. Don't know.

As for the jar, yes, I do think I'll stick with a fairly small one. Good point about making them fresh in small batches rather than one large one and having it sit around.

merch, you'd probably be right. However, it's hard not to grin when one is lying on the best smelling linen sheets while holding a shiney new rifle....

Ok, that is kinda weird. Big Grin

I use a funnel. I also have a freakishly steady hand, and used to entertain folks by free pouring vinegar in those narrow necked bottles. Don't sneeze!

So far my 40s have been MUCH better than my 30s.

Weird is a best smelling gun and shiny sheets.

  11. Broken Arrow Says:

Sometimes I wonder about that twisted mind of yours, baselle.

hmm. if you do have a midlife crisis, lets hope its a positive one! (of course, not that buying a brand new porsche isn't positive - if you can afford it.) what i mean is, i see a lot of people, men mostly of course, that have a change of heart in their 40's and 50's, and they start questioning all they've done in their lives and if it was worth it, if they've done everything they can, and if they've been living the way they wanted when they were younger, bright eyed and bushy tailed. have you seen everything you want to see? have you done everything you want to do? have you helped people you want to help? maybe if you're worried about a midlife crisis, you could start putting money away for an overseas trip or something. Big Grin

  13. Broken Arrow Says:

Oh no! No sports cars for me....

Well, unless I strike it very rich somehow.

But seriously, while I like cars, I think they're too much money to be wasting on, and for what? To feel like "young" again? I'd rather feel "rich"! Big Grin
Anyways, nah, I'm not worried about it. I'd bet good money that I'd still be frugal then.

  14. Aleta Says:

Well, if you ever get the urge for a red sports car; maybe the cure might be to rent one for a day or week to get it out of your system. I think saving for a trip overseas is a good idea as well although it's a tad expensive right now with a dollar being so low. Hopefully, by the time you have saved your money, it will be more affordable. Just find some goals and go after them and check them off your to-do list.
