Good Friday quickies

April 10th, 2009 at 12:54 pm

Perhaps that's a terrible title, and I apologize. I'll try to make it quick.

* Wikipedia has an interesting etymology for the entry

Text is piggy bank and Link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piggy_bank
piggy bank. Go check it out!

* I tossed out a couple of Blockbuster coupons. Why would I want to pay $1.99 discounted price for DVDs when I can get about the same for $0.99 at Red Box? Sometimes, a deal still isn't a deal.

* Wells Fargo stock jumped to over 30% yesterday. I wasn't in it. I weep.

* Probably noticed by now that I've made some color changes on the blog, as well as added some links that I like. Please let me know what you think of it.

* How do you keep birds out of air vents? I read that the best way is to put a wire mesh over the vents, but what if the vents are second story high and you don't have any means of reaching it?

* Ok, there is absolutely no rhyme or reason why I should even be aware of something like this, but I thought this is the

prettiest baby crib I've ever seen. And that's my insane moment of the day. Big Grin

That piece about the piggy bank is pretty interesting. I always assumed they got their name from their shape. Guess I was wrong Smile

Wellsfargo jumped? Yesterday the yahoo newsfeed was running a big story on how Wellsfargo has been able to do so well in this economy...I guess the stock leap created the news story...but bet the two somehow fed into each other.

That is an interesting article about the piggybank.

As for the coupons, I quite agree with you. I rent the red box movies whenever I can. Even if I have to keep them one extra day, you're only looking at $2.14 with tax. Even if you rent one that you don't particularly like, it's better to spend only $1. instead of $4.99 that blockbuster is charging now.

As for your colors, I like the combination. Good choice.

As for your links, that is a good idea. One of the upsides of reading the blogs is checking into links that I would have never known about before.

As for baby crib, for $4,750, it better be the prettiest crib out there.

We have a similiar problem with our dryer vent and the only way to do it is to put a wire mesh there. I have heard that there is a system that you can put near your dryer that allows you to collecy the lint there. I'll have to check it out myself.

    Ladder? Scaffolding? Hire a jack-of-all-trades?

Well, I don't have a ladder that long, and I'm too cheap to hire someone just to clear out an air vent. Currently, I have it covered up with duct tape and using a very long stick. Big Grin But covering it up completely isn't exactly a good solution, only a temporary one.

I love piggy banks! They always make me smile and remind me of being frugal and saving money. I LOVE the HSBC rolling pig commercials! I don't think I even own an actual "piggy bank" that could store money. I have a silver charm and a couple decorative ones about 2 inches long. I love to give piggy banks as baby gifts!

BA - even better than the $.99 Red Box movies are the FREE red box movies! Do a google search for red box coupons. Big Grin

Speaking of piggy bank commercials, there was that commercial about "Feed the Pig", but it had this guy in a pig face and there's a coin slot on top of his head, and people would put coins into his head while he walk around happily like he had to go really bad and just wet himself or something. Clearly, that one freaked me out. Big Grin

But yeah, duh. I keep forgetting about free Red Box movies!

Uh... I really didn't like that commercial! It didn't exactly elicit the same reaction as the HSBC rolly pig.
