TV and cellphone

June 2nd, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Did the over-the-air digital mandate finally go into effect? I noticed that I completely lost my one analog channel. Decided to completely rescan, but still ended up with only 3 good channels. Oh well, I can't complain since it's free.

Wow, I had to double check this month's phone usage, because I really thought I made a mistake somewhere. But... apparently not. I used only $1.67 worth of minutes! I guess this makes sense because most of my conversations were through email. This pre-pay arrangement is really working out nicely for me!

As far as I know the change starts on June 12th. Great job on the cell phone usage. I should probably get something similar.

I see. Yeah, I'll probably re-scan again that day.

I am so tempted to go to prepaid. I think we would definitely save money over the long term. We just don't use enough minutes to justify even the lowest family plan.

Yeah, it's working out great for me, but I also have to qualify that I am a very low usage user. To give you an idea of how I ended up with such a low cost, I only used 18.6 minutes in the month of May.

I think for people who use minutes more regularly, monthly plans might hold a better value.

I'm prepaid too... and a light user like you.... we text more that speak on the phone over here... much cheaper than monthly plans for me...

do you have a set-top box? i dont know if it's the same as here, but our reception was absolutely crap until we decided to lay down the dough (all $49 of it) for a set-top box. now we have PERFECT reception, and more channels (well, we have 10 channels - used to be 5 channels - i know you guys get more for free but that's how it's always been for us).

oh - and last month i was only $23 off my cap plan of $300 Big Grin i like to talk a lot on the phone. and we don't have a home phone that we use, it's only there for internet.

    Um... I don't have a set-top box, but I'll look into it.

However, a normal set-top box here is just a TV tuner, be it analog or digital. Unless there's some kind of new technology that helps to clean or boost signals.

In any case, I watch most of my TV shows now on Hulu.

Some TV stations chose to go earlier than the switch over date. June 12th is the last date by which they have to had made the switch.
