A short cautionary tale with a sad ending.

Among other things, it shows that even having money is not enough to find happiness in life. I believe one also have to have the financial aptitude to manage it wisely.

Quite a shame. He didn't sound like a bad guy.

    Even if you can manage it, so many people have said they have lost friends and family over lottery winnings - because everyone expects a handout. It's just not all roses as most people would imagine.

    Sad, but not surprising.

    I can't imagine having money ruining my life, but then again, I wouldn't waste it on racehorses, cars and other petty things. I'd use it to buy a reasonable home and car and pay off my fiance's house so we could finally get married and just be happy. Maybe take a vacation. The rest would go into savings.

    I really think the only people who say the lottery ruins their life just really don't know how to manage money.

    I don't play the lottery, but it would not hurt my life if I did win. I have everything in life I want, so I would not spend a dime. I would give a lot of it to my animal shelter and save the rest.

    He won enough money just to ruin his life. I'd suspect that he didn't have a clue about money before the lottery came along. I play once in a while but realize the responsibility and burden that it could hold for me where others are concerned.

    It seems like he just spent it on all of the things he had always spent it on regardless if they were right or wrong for him.
